Quick Guide for upgrade MySQL 5.0 to 5.5 in CentOS 5.x/CentOS 5.6

  1. Install the MySQL 5.1 (just for migration), you can’t update directly from 5.0.x to 5.5, install the MySQL 5.5;
  2. Backup/Execute sql_dump the MySQL 5.0 databases;
  3. Stop the MySQL 5.0 databases;
  4. Upgrading MySQL 5.0 databases to MySQL 5.1 databases; (dump and restore upgrade ou in-place upgrade)
  5. Start the MySQL 5.1 databases;
  6. Execute the MySQL migration tool (mysql_upgrade) in MySQL 5.1 databases;
  7. Backup/Execute sql_dump the MySQL 5.1 databases;
  8. Stop the MySQL 5.1 databases;
  9. Upgrading MySQL 5.1 databases to MySQL 5.5 databases; (dump and restore upgrade ou in-place upgrade)
  10. Execute the MySQL migration tool (mysql_upgrade) in MySQL 5.1 databases;
  11. Remove the MySQL 5.1;
  12. Start the MySQL 5.5 databases.

Note:
MySQL 5.1 should not be used in production environments.
