How to install vpnc on CentOS 5.X

The vpnc program is VPN client used to connect to Cisco  VPNs.

32bits client installation and configuration

  1. download the rpm: vpnc-0.5.3-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm (http://pkgs.repoforge.org/vpnc)
  2. yum localinstall vpnc-0.5.3-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm;
  3. Change the configuration (/etc/vpnc/vpnc.conf)
  4. chmod 600 vpnc.conf (set read and write for root only)
  5. chmod 700 /etc/vpnc/vpnc-script

For 64bits client

use the rpm: vpnc-0.5.3-1-el5.rf.x86_64.rpm

Connect to your VPN (open new vpnc session)

  • vpnc

To disconnect: (close the vpnc session)

  • vpnc-disconnect
